This is a draft document pending approval at the scheduled meeting to be held on (Tuesday), April 11, 2023. The Tri-State Senior Softball League (TSSSL) convened for a scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 6:00 PM – 6:33 PM. The meeting was held at Wacohu Grange Hall, 16412 National Pike, Hagerstown, MD. The following Board members were in attendance: President-Dave Barnhart, Vice President-Donnie Helman, Treasurer-Tommy Hyme , Secretary/Webmaster-Mark Plumley, and League Manager-Bob Thomas. 16 additional league members were in attendance this evening. The President, Dave commenced the meeting at 6:00 PM and requested a motion to accept the February meeting minutes posted on our league website. Minutes were motioned and approved as written with no changes. Old Business: President, Dave had Tommy provide the Treasury Report. Tommy stated the league Savings account currently has $3448.00 and the league Checking account balance is $4273.57. The league has received 40 Registration forms so far with 10 being paid via PayPal into our checking account. He has paid the annual league Insurance policy of $400.00 that covers play at the County Parks. A question was asked what this Insurance actually covers. Tommy explained that it was primarily for our fans and not the players. President, Dave requested that the league Managers and players reach out to last years players and their friends to push our registration. Our goal is to obtain 8 teams this season. - Dave asked for members to place our league posters at local businesses, places we frequent to get the word out. - Dave advised that we have received one additional sponsors check from FOP. Stonebridge check is forthcoming. A card was purchased to sign by our members to show our appreciation. - He asked the members to continue patronizing Stonebridge for the remainder of March to take advantage of the fundraiser that they have provided to the league. - Dave advised that we have not received any 35-40 year registrants to this point. - He advised that the league is still in need of new Bat Evaluator / Inspector. Greg Hess stepped up and volunteered to assume this role. He requested any additional information to help him with the evaluation process. Dave, stated we will provide any help we can and we will reach out to the previous Bat Inspector, Jim Nelson for any assistance. Vice President, Donnie had nothing to address. Secretary/Webmaster, Mark was told during the day, that there were still members not receiving their emails. He asked for a show of hands how many members present utilize our website for their league information. With almost all showing they do and those in attendence were also getting their emails. With our new email address of (tsssl1@yahoo.com) being recently established within the last 4 or 5 months, individuals will have to check their Junk or Spam folders and mark our email address as a "Safe Sender". League Manager, Bob had nothing to address. New Business - League member, Craig Metz suggested something be placed on the website about the History of our League. Discussion was had, and we are looking for a league historian to step up possibly to provide their insight or assist Craig with their knowledge of league. - A question was asked, when our Practice Sessions will begin? They are tentatively scheduled to begin April 03 - 06 (Monday-Thursday) @ 6:00 PM at Marty Snook Park. (Weather Permitting). Information is up on the website "Calendar" page. The league is requesting that new players attend at least 4 practices so that Managers can make a fair assessment of their abilities prior to the draft. - Draft date was discussed and the league will remain flexible and not select a date at this time due to the many variables that come into play. Primarily the weather. We are attempting to have 3 weeks of practice, or 12 evenings in April. - A question was asked if the Halfway Park outfields will be rolled? Dave has talked with the Parks director, and yes, they will roll and ensure all fencing supports are sub-surface prior to our season beginning. The league will also be able to mow the foul lines and chalk the lines. - League member, Ray Smitley took the time to thank the Board members for our time and for all that we do to keep the league going! Thank you Ray for recognizing our work! - We have boxes at the City Parks Fields that we need to remove by March 25. Looking for volunteers to step forward and assist on that day. As mentioned, these boxes do weigh a lot. - A question was asked, what hat we were purchasing? The better quality hat in gray was the answer. - A discussion on late registrants. League has a tentative Registration deadline of April 24, 2023. Weather permitting that we get enough practice sessions in and registrants, date will hold true. Any late registrants will go into a pool. - Tommy proposed the league implement an Entertainment committee. Darren Pevarnick volunteered to assist with this committee. - A question was asked about Pitchers masks? Each team will be provided a mask, the pitcher will have the option to wear the mask. The next scheduled meeting is proposed for (Tuesday) April 11, 2023 at Marty Snook Park. A motion was made to close the meeting and seconded. The meeting adjourned at 6:33 PM.
